Weekly Wander to the West Indies and My Favorite Island!

Volcanoes, lush Rain Forests, beautiful white sand beaches, magnificent waterfalls … nope I’m talking about Hawaii! But an Island in the Caribbean! One that is so mystic and amazing that French sailors named her after a woman - St. Lucy. This island is so incredible that the French and British fought over it for years, changing hands between the two countries 7 times. St. Lucia has been an independent nation since 1967 with tourism as the island’s main industry. This sovereign nation of St. Lucia has captured my heart and every one who visits. Enough on the history lesson, lets go there now!

If you are going to St. Lucia you will want to plan to stay at least 6 days. You will have two full travel days one coming and one going so give yourself plenty of time to explore and enjoy the Island. This isn’t one of those destinations where you will want to enjoy your resort the entire time, get out and see what St. Lucia has to offer! The airport is on the South side of the island, while there are some resorts near the airport the most preferable resort areas are 2 hours north. One of our favorite things we do for our clients is to set up a helicopter transfer on their arrival, seeing the island from the air is crazy fun and 12 minutes in the air versus a 2 hour transfer ride through the mountains and hairpin turns - yes please!

St. Lucia has some of the most diverse accommodations of any Caribbean Islands, which is why so many celebrities plan their honeymoons here! You want romantic rooms we got you covered! You will then take a shuttle through the town of Soufriere to visit a retired Cocoa plantation for lunch, then on to the drive-in Volcano where you can take a mud bath and dip in a hot spring for a spa experience. Once you feel like a million bucks you will be taken to a huge waterfall to be cooled off in your “power shower” - you have to do this!! Then you will head back down the mountain to board your catamaran and taken to the best snorkeling spot on the island! Oh we aren’t done, the party is just getting started - after snorkeling your crew will open the bar and crank up the music - free flowing rum punch dance party all the way back to Rodney Bay. This is the ultimate St. Lucia experience for a day you will never forget!

Your Weekly Wander this week takes you to Exuma, Bahamas! The Bahamas is surviving and THRIVING! Dorian did a number on 3 of the Bahamas Northern Islands, but the Mid to Southern Islands were virtually untouched by the far reaching winds of Dorian.

You can take a million pictures of this water and it will never do it justice!

Exuma is known for several things … swimming pigs (what?!), the famed Greg Norman Golf course, Web.com golf tournament and amazingly breath-taking crystal blue water. Exuma is one of the larger out-lying islands of the Bahamas and scarcely populated, you will not see much else going on outside of tourism and fishing - which makes this the perfect destination to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Take a catamaran and visit all the tiny islands near by that are completely desolate and some islands that are owned by celebrities, don’t worry we can set this up for you! There are some inhabitants on this island you might want to meet…

Swimming with the Pigs is so popular here and for good reason, how cute are they! They do get right in the water and swim with you and the stingrays. The pigs are well taken care of by a local watersports company that feeds them everyday, takes watch over the babies and moves them to safety in the event of a hurricane. The pigs are a highlight for sure!

When she is isn’t booking your amazing vacation, she is working as the Assistant Branch Manager of AppleOne in Columbia.  She has a long tenure in Human Resources and after leaving a HR position with a local retailer she jumped feet first into helping others find their dream job.  Her true passion is helping people, which is way she is so amazing building the L+W team! Whether that’s finding your dream job, finding amazing talent for your team, creating your perfect vacation, helping you grow personally, or simply just making your day a little better, she is your girl!  Stacy’s travel career began with her love for cruising. She started by booking her family cruises and quickly expanded into Caribbean and other destinations.  Her heart belongs to the Caribbean,  where you will frequently find her on a beach with a cocktail in hand!

 When you meet Stacy you will certainly hear some story about her family, her amazing little ones Madison (11) and Dalton (9), or her mini-me Charlotte, her niece.

I'm already missing summer vibes, take me back to Barbados!

Stac and I were thrilled to take a trip way down South to Barbados in August to experience Sandals Barbados and the brand new Sandals Royal Barbados. Meredith Merritt, or as we fondly call her at the L+W, Mere is a self proclaimed travel addict! But she hasn’t always been a travelling diva, Meredith spent the early years of her career in Early Childhood Education and then spent many years as a Stay-At-Mom to her 3 beautiful babies! After deciding to go back into education when her youngest child went to kindergarten, she realized the classroom wasn’t lighting her heart on fire anymore. But what did? TRAVEL - Disney travel to be specific! She took the necessary steps and a giant leap of faith to leave education to pursue her passion. Mere jumped into the travel industry with both feet! She quickly realized there was a huge need for help in other areas of leisure travel and she was just the OCD maniac to organize, babysit and take care of every component of her clients precious treasures - their vacations. She has spent every waking moment over the past 4 years building her travel business and learning all the ins and outs of this small but mighty travel industry.

This year she was able to see her dream come to fruition when Luxe + Wander debuted in July! How does a Private Villa in Antigua Sound?!

Welcome to your Weekly Wander, your 5 minute escape from the hustle and bustle to a new destination each week. And maybe even some inspiration for your next vacation. This week…Antigua!

Gary has arranged for you to be greeted with your very own staff that will assist you in your stay.  He let you know the kitchen and bar are stocked and each couple is given a key to their room where your luggage already waits. When the gates of Rock Cottage are opened you literally gasp as you try to take in the beauty before you.  One villa, communal living areas, decks and lounges as well as balconies to each of the 5 suites, 2 infinity pools over- looking your private dock and your very own beach – completely secluded. The steel drums play, the bartender makes you a specialized rum cocktail while you settle in for your time in Paradise.

Your weekend will consist of private dinner for your group prepared at Rock Cottage, Live entertainment in your villa, beautiful Caribbean BBQ lunch grilled right at the Rock Cottage and an itinerary befitting royalty. For the ladies a spa day, for the men a golf outing. A private yachting experience around the island and to lunch at one of the most amazing meals we have ever had at Sheer Rocks. Luxe + Wander + Magic Disney Take Over!

Eeeekkssss…. there is so much going on at Walt Disney World!! We can’t wait to share it with you!!

My family and I just returned from an amazing, fun filled couple of days at WDW and I cannot wait to return this fall- it truly might be the best time ever to visit. From now until the end of the year Disney is offering something for everyone - from night time parties, the food and wine festival, rides on the new Skyliner and not to mention GALAXY'S EDGE GRAND OPENING!

ITS FINALLY HERE! Galaxy's Edge is opening August 29, 2019. The new land inside Disney's Hollywood Studios is set to open with one of its two rides, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run as well as dining and unique merchandise for purchase. The other headlining attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is set to open Dec. 5, 2019.

PRO TIP: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will offer Extra, Extra Magic Hours from 6 a.m - 9 a.m until Nov. 2 for guests staying at any Disney Resort hotels and other good neighbor resorts. From what I have heard from my inside connections the experience is unlike anything else available at any theme park out there.

How will you get to The Studios? The Skyliner of course!

The Skyliner takes flight on September 29th! It will connect both Hollywood Studios and Epcot to Disney resorts that include Riviera, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century and Art of Animation. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station will be the hub of activity for The Disney Skyliner. At this station, you will be able to transfer gondola routes to reach their destination, or are invited to sit and admire the waterfront resort setting that embodies the beauty of the tropics! This will be a fun, quick way to get from park to park or back to your resort (if you are staying at one of the ones connected) in a jif!

Luxe + Wander + Magic’s favorite fall events: Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and The Food and Wine Festival!  

Mickey's Not So Scary is a separate ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom. The party hours are 7PM to 12AM, but party guests can arrive as early as 4PM. The last show is at 12AM, and you can hang around and shop for a bit after that. It is the one time a year that Disney encourages adults and kids to dress up is their best halloween gear and celebrate with wonderful character interactions, LOTS of candy, unreal fireworks and a very special parade! This super fun event should definitely be experienced at least once! Let's talk if you want to attend- there are certain nights each week that we can help you secure. Pro Tip: The Boo to You Parade during the party is the best Disney parade all year long - this event is a MUST DO and fills up fast - contact us today to get your party tickets!

The Food and Wine Festival is another event not to be missed in 2019.

There will be over 30 marketplace booths set up throughout the World showcase in Epcot for your dining pleasure. Make sure you come hungry to this event that come with your park admission ticket to Epcot. The unique food and wine offerings cater to every palate, sample small plates and cocktails from each booth! PRO TIP: You can use your Disney Dining Plan snack credits for small plates around the World Showcase. Our very own founder doesn’t miss a Food and Wine Festival in Disney and you shouldn’t either - perfect for a quick adult-only getaway! What goes along with great food and cocktails - a kick butt, star-studded entertainment schedule on the Epcot Stage every evening!

Wander to Beaches Turks and Caicos - The Ulimate in Family All-Inclusive

Our goal for the Weekly Wander is to give you 5 minutes out of your busy day to see something beautiful and escape reality! This week we are taking you to the mesmerizing island of Turks and Caicos! The crystal blue water brings visitors to this island and it is truly something to behold! You can swim as far out as you can and still see the white sandy bottom with complete clarity.

No lie… NO filter …it’s just really that beautiful.

Turks and Caicos is known for some of the best scuba diving in the world, located on the 3rd largest reef in the world just behind the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Barrier Reef in Belize. For us this was the main purpose of this trip, our oldest son as dreamed for as long as we can remember to become PADI certified. The great thing about Beaches is unlimited diving for certified divers. You are able to receive all of your official PADI certifications onsite, the cost is not included but very thorough and they email your PADI card to you before you even leave the resort for future diving. Take a look at some of these stunning images …

Tap to scroll for more… at Beaches you leave right from the dock on site for all of your dives. They also take you out for snorkeling and glass bottom boats which is all included as well! Children as young as 8 years old can learn to scuba in the PADI Bubbles program. And yes that’s a shark! There were lots of reef and black tip sharks - amazingly they are beautiful creatures slowly gliding through the deep waters.

The fun doesn’t stop at diving! We were non-stop on our trip enjoying everything the resort has to offer! Snorkeling, Kayaking, Water Triking, Surfing on the Simulator, enjoying the water park, kids clubs, beach party, nightly shows, Sesame Street characters and 21 dining venues (we didn’t get to all of them so I guess we will have to go back). Imagine Disney in the Caribbean and you pretty much have Beaches Turks and Caicos!

Oh that darn Mac and Cheese truck with it’s delicious Fried Mac and Cheese balls, I’ll be wearing a moo moo for the rest of the summer!!

Ahhhh serenity now! Next time I’m planning a spa day for mom!

Allow me to introduce Erin Vassallo, the head of our Luxe + Wander + Magic Division.  We love all things magic here at L+W and found that we needed to devote an entire division of our company to those that love Magic as much as we do! Erin might just love the areas of magic more than most, she is a self-proclaimed Disney freak and visits her second home every other month with her family.   Her heart belongs in Disney and spreading the true joy that springs from all things Disney drives her passion to curate individualized experiences for her clients.

In fact, Erin takes a very different approach to planning Disney vacations. She combines her passion for health and wellness with her love for Disney. Not only planning her clients itineraries with Fast Passes and Dining Reservations but she also incorporates meal and snack prep recipes and ideas as well as an exercise plan for vacation.  She believes to be your best self you have to fuel your body and your mind, and that’s just what she helps her clients do to ensure they are able to enjoy the true joy of Disney.  Don’t worry if you want to indulge on your vacation, life is all about balance and Erin knows all the best snacks and eateries on property to point you in the right direction!

She also spends a lot of time getting to know her clients and their very specific needs, whether her clients are Foodies and want a deluxe top to bottom experience, or couples celebrating their honeymoon and want excitement during the day and relaxed romance in the evenings, or families that are experiencing Disney for the very first time and Disney Veterans wanting to experience a different resort each time they visit – Erin has you covered. 

We asked our Disney Pro about some of her Magical Favorites! ERIN’S FAVES

Favorite Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge in a Savannah View One Bedroom – this gives her family a kitchenette, washer and dryer and two bathrooms to allow for meal prepping and coming home with clean cleans – GLORY Hallelujah! Not to mention watching the giraffes walk by your window!

Favorite Park: MAGIC KINGDOM no doubt! “I still get teary eyed every time I turn the corner and see the Cinderella’s castle!”

Favorite Restaurant: Mori Moto and Chef Art Smith in Disney Springs!

Favorite Snack: Caramel Popcorn in the Wherthers shop in Germany of Epcot’s World Showcase! Oh MY!

Favorite Cocktail: House made Margaritas from California Grill!  Pro Tip: Sip your margaritas while watching the nightly fireworks show from the best seat in the house 14th floor of the Contemporary Resort while dining over-looking Magic Kingdom Park! Pure MAGIC!

Cabo - RECAP!!

Los Cabos has always been a hotspot for West coast visitors, but not always on the radar for East Coasters!  I am here to tell you … it should be!!  We were completely blown away by Cabo, the sights, sounds, tastes, people and everything in between!  Los Cabos is so different than the east coast of Mexico, it has a completely different vibe – completely Mexican but with California all mixed in. If you want a chic, hip, and affluent area to visit, Cabo should be at the top of your list!  You have to go to know … “What happens in Cabo, stays in Cabo”

Breathtaking El Arco is the most distinctive landmark on the most Southern tip of Cabo San Lucas we were able to see it right from our hotel in Cabo San Lucas, Breathless Cabo San Lucas. We got an up close and personal view from our Luxury Sailing Day.

Breathless Cabo San Lucas is an easy and scenic 30 minute drive from the airport.  Situated right on the marina in Cabo San Lucas, which makes it easy to walk to restaurants and bars along the boardwalk.  We loved this oceanfront resorts size, it was completely intimate with two separate buildings, one was quiet and relaxing while The Beach Club Building was lively and happening!  Checkout those Marina views, I can almost hear the sea lions from here!

Breathless is located on the Marina and one of only a handful of swimmable beaches in Cabo.  Beware!! Pacific currents are strong and deadly and swimming is not allowed on most beaches so if you find one the water is chilly and refreshing go ahead and take a dip!

 So much to do in Cabo you will not have time to do it all, so you will have to come back again and again!  We walked down the beach from Breathless to The Office, it’s a must do restaurant and experience!

Travel Hack
Since Cabo is in the on the Pacific coast the flight time is around 6 hours from the south east coast if you fly direct. Atlanta and Charlotte has nonstop flights weekly to Cabo. Even though it’s a longer flights it’s a much shorter travel day than going through a smaller gateway! Time is money, when you are trying to get to paradise!
